Father John Sergiev (1829 -1908), priest at the St. Andrew Church on the Island of Kronstadt in the bay adjacent to St. Petersburg, was a pivotal figure of the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the life of St. Petersburg and in Russia as a whole. His life was dedicated to serving God through daily worship, ministry to and education of the poor, powerful intercessory prayer and spiritual guidance. He established the St. John of Rila Women’s Monastery in northeastern St. Petersburg, where his relics are still located. This video explores the influence of Father John. (A knowledge of Russian is desirable for this video.)
