DESCRIPTION:

St. Mary of Egypt reposed in the desert on April 1, 522.  We are blessed to know of her because God led St. Zosimas into the desert, across the Jordan River, to encounter St. Mary, after she had lived there alone for 47 years.  It is Elder Zosimas' account of St. Mary's Life, later written down by St. Sophronius, that is appointed to be read during the Great Canon of St. Andrew of Crete for Thursday of the Fifth Week of the Great Fast/Lent, while the Fifth Sunday of the Great Fast is also dedicated to her.

The Holy Orthodox Church sees in St. Mary of Egypt a model of the power of repentance and God's forgiveness.  Her Life clearly shows us that no matter how we have sinned, we can change, we can transform our lives and our hearts, by the grace and power of the Holy Spirit, and through the intercessions of the Mother of God and all the saints.

This recording is marvelous to listen to any time of year, and of course, especially during the Great Fast/Lent.

The Troparion and Kontakion to St. Mary is included following the Akathist.

This cassette is packaged in the customary way  - in a clear, hard-plastic box, with a yellow "J" card with an icon of St. Zosimas giving Holy Communion to St. Mary on the cover, and notes on the inside flap.

As with all of these audio recordings of prayers, this cassette is ideal for commuters, the sight-impaired, sick, elderly, home-bound, and for anyone who wishes to bring more prayer into his or her life.
